Why you should extend your oil-drain intervals
Extending the life of your oil means reducing operating costs in the long run. In addition to the increasing costs of the lubricants themselves, labor, disposal, and recycling fees all add up. By extending your oil-drain intervals, you’re not only saving company money, you’re contributing to environmental sustainability—also an increasing point of importance for many organizations in the current corporate climate.
Three tips to extend your oil-drain intervals
- Use a premium lubricant. Yes, it might feel a little counterintuitive to spend more up-front, but by investing in a premium-quality mineral or synthetic lubricant, you have the potential of extending your oil-drain intervals two to five times! Especially in extreme operating conditions, a high-quality lubricant increases efficiency and performance.
- Utilizing proper breather and seal management to keep contaminants out can help extend oil-drain intervals. Contaminants such as dust particles, moisture, and aeration are known to prematurely degrade fluids. In most cases, real-time offline filtration (a continual filtration process on your storage reservoir) to supplement inline (full flow and return line) filters can easily double or triple oil life.
- Regular oil analysis and maintenance is your best line of defense against machine failure. Because oil viscosity is one of the last “oil health” properties to change, waiting for that increase or decrease means that sludge, varnish, acids and other deposits have already started to form. By consistently measuring oil properties, you can preempt failures.
Here’s how MAINTelligence™ can help you do just that, and extend your oil-drain intervals
Achieve consistent oil quality and manage your sample program from start to finish with MAINTelligence™ and InspectMT™. Simply set up your mobile routes in the MAINTelligence™ Route Manager to organize, schedule, and print labels for sample jars.
Our mobile app, InspectMT™, can be used to guide you through your route using barcodes and NFC tags to help validate the data.
Polaris, one of our many commercial lab interfaces, can be used to import the sample data into MAINTelligence™ ’s Sample Manager, where further analysis can take place. Using our built-in report generator, you can create sample reports, compliance reports, or reports to include other PdM data. Alternatively, sample data can also be displayed on our dashboard, ViewMT™.
From collection to analysis and reporting, we have you covered to optimize your lubricant, and therefore overall machine health, through extending oil-drain intervals that reduce maintenance costs and lower environmental footprints.
